Cerebral Palsy Clinic

Cerebral palsy refers to a group of neurological disorders that present in early childhood as delay in acquisition of milestones (predominantly motor problems). These disorders do not worsen over time. Early treatment prevents emergence of complications and facilitates integration of the child into mainstream schooling.

Often there are associated symptoms, such as seizures, feeding difficulties, hearing and visual problems, attention deficit, learning disorders, behavioural problems, etc., which need to be addressed as vigorously.

We, at Kokilaben Dhirubhai Ambani Hospital, have a devoted team that offers multidisciplinary care to the patients with Cerebral Palsy. We shall guide and support the child and the family to cope with this chronic condition at every step—from diagnosis to comprehensive treatment.

The goal of treatment in Cerebral Palsy is functional independence for the child. Treatment is multimodal.

  • Therapy consists of physiotherapy, occupational therapy, speech therapy
  • Medicines to control seizures, relax muscle spasms and alleviate pain
  • For refractory and severe spasticity- intramuscular botulinum toxin injections or intrathecal baclofen pumps are necessary
  • Surgery is necessary to correct anatomical abnormalities or release tight muscles.
  • Patients commonly require orthotic devices, such as braces, splints, wheelchairs and communication aids
