On 15th February 2013, Dr. Shreyash Gajjar, Consultant, Arthroscopy & Trauma Surgeon, Kokilaben Dhirubhai Ambani Hospital, Mumbai was the first in India to perform an All-Arthroscopic Acute Acromio-Clavicular (AC) Joint Shoulder Reconstruction using the Arthrex Dog-Bone implant.
Dr. Gajjar performs Anatomic Single Bundle ACL Reconstruction, which is the latest advocated Single Bundle ACL Reconstruction technique to improve functional outcomes of ACL reconstruction compared to the conventional techniques.
On 9th August 2014, Dr Shreyash Gajjar was the 1st in India to perform this procedure.
1) AVN of the Hip joint is a condition where there is a focal loss of blood supply to the Femoral Head of the hip joint. This condition is usually seen in the young adults due to a number of causes i.e. Idiopathic, Steroid/Alcohol use, Post-traumatic, Sickle cell etc..
2) Patients presenting complaints are Pain on weight-bearing, Limp, Limitation in terminal hip movements.
3) Treatment - Early stage - Core decompression surgery wherein a drill track is created to reach the affected bone dead area which is then cleaned out & the defect area filled with bone graft +/- bone marrow cells (latest technique).
Late stage - Hip replacement
4) Whilst the Core decompression surgery is routinely performed under Fluoroscopy (Xray Image) guidance, the advantage of an Arthroscopy Assisted technique is that it gives a 3 dimensional view of the femoral head cartilage which should remain intact during the procedure. Hence, the Arthroscopy assisted technique prevents the risk of cartilage injury which is possible in Fluoroscopy guided technique. Other advantage is that any additional associated hip joint pathologies like Labral tear, synovitis, FAI etc can also be managed simultaneously.
In 2013, Dr Shreyash Gajjar was the first in India to perform All- Arthroscopic surgical treatment for this condition. It is seen in Adolescent children usually engaged in sporting activities wherein a portion of the growing bone fails to unite with the main shin bone. The presenting complaints are pain, swelling especially with sporting activities. Surgery aimed at removing the ununited piece of bone is indicated when non- surgical treatment i.e. rest, medicines, physiotherapy fail. Surgery which is commonly performed by an open approach can result in painful scars and longer recovery time. An All- Arthroscopic technique eliminates these complications allowing quicker recovery & restores function.
In 2014, Dr Shreyash Gajjar has performed Shoulder & Elbow Replacements in International Middle-East patients following Complex fractures from war injuries & also in Indian patients following Neglected disabling injuries with Excellent functional results.
On 22nd Nov 2014, Dr Shreyash Gajjar was the 1st in India to perform this procedure.
Ankle ligament injury occurs due to sporting activities. The Lateral Ankle ligament - Anterior Talofibular ligament (ATFL) is most commonly torn. A majority of Acute ligament tears heal with Rest, Medications and good Physiotherapy. However, a small percentage, especially Complete ligament tears may fail to heal and cause persistent pain, swelling, giving way and inability to return to sports. In these cases, Surgical Reconstruction of the ATFL ligament is the preferred treatment.
Open surgical approach to reconstruct the torn ligament was the only available method until recently when an All-Arthroscopic technique has been developed. The advantages offered by an All- Arthroscopic procedure are less pain, less tissue dissection and quicker recovery with excellent functional results.
On 14th March 2015, Dr Shreyash Gajjar was the 1st in India to perform this procedure using the Internal Brace technique.
Elbow dislocation which results from fall or accidental injury results in tear of one or both of the joint's supporting ligaments - Medial & Lateral Collateral ligaments.
This injury requires immediate medical treatment wherein the joint is reduced back in position. Whilst a minor form of this injury restores joint function with physiotherapy, in cases when the injury is severe, Elbow stability can only be restored with ligament reconstruction. Previously, patients own healthy tissue (tendon graft) from other areas i.e. knee joint was used for this procedure adding to donor site morbidity. However, a recent advance in technology is reconstructing these ligaments with strong suture materials (Internal brace technique) which provides excellent joint stability, function and eliminates use of patient's healthy tendon tissue.
Labral tears of the Hip result from sporting activities or injury & present with hip pain especially during bending movements. Surgery may be indicated when the symptoms fail to resolve with medications & physiotherapy.
Arthroscopic techniques performed by Dr Gajjar have several advantages over the traditional method of open surgery i.e. less pain, less tissue dissection and quicker recovery with excellent functional results.
The TFCC ligament of the wrist can be torn during sporting activities or following fall. Whilst minor injury to the ligament recovers with Medications & Physiotherapy, complete tears if symptomatic require surgical treatment. Dr Gajjar performs All-Arthroscopic techniques for ligament repair which being minimally invasive cause less tissue trauma, less pain & quicker functional recovery.
