Biography

After completion of her Internal Medicine training in Jaslok Hospital, Mumbai she worked for a period of 3 years in the field of neurology in Jaslok Hospital and Research Centre and Kokilaben Dhirubhai Ambani Hospital before foraying into neurophysiology. She visited Cleveland Clinic, USA for a summer fellowship in Epilepsy and Clinical Neurophysiology and worked with Dr Bashar Katirji in Case Western Reserve University, Cleveland in the field of neuromuscular medicine and EMG.

She has worked in the emergency medicine department in Lilavati Hospital and with Dr Farokh Udwadia in general medicine in Breach Candy Hospital prior to her residency.

  • EEG, VEEG, and long term bedside monitoring for ICU patients. (Kokilaben Hospital is the only hospital offering this service in Mumbai)
  • Intraoperative monitoring for brain tumour with speech/language mapping, central sulcus and motor area mapping. (maximum no of cases in the city of Mumbai).
  • Spine surgeries requiring motor evoked potential (MEP), somatosensory evoked potential (SSEP) and Dwave mapping for spinal tumours (one of the two centres in Mumbai offering all these modalities).
  • Epilepsy surgery requiring Electrocorticography. Complex epilepsy requiring Stereo EEG recording (maximum cases in Mumbai city). These are high end state of the art technologies which are still sparsely available in Mumbai.
  • Performs Electromyography, electrophysiology studies like BERA, VEP, SSEP, Decrement study. Dr. Iyer has been doing EEG, VEEG, Intraoperative monitoring for brain and spine surgeries.
