Myth - A stroke occurs in the heart

KDAH

One of the most widespread myths is that strokes occur in the heart. While atrial fibrillation, a form of irregular heartbeat, might raise the risk of stroke, a stroke happens when the blood flow to a part of the brain is reduced or cut off. Reduced blood flow deprives cells of oxygen and nutrients, causing brain cells in the affected area to die. #WorldStrokeDay
