What causes Sickle Cell Disease?

KDAH

Sickle Cell Disease (SCD) is inherited in an autosomal recessive pattern, meaning a person must receive two defective hemoglobin genes, one from each parent, to develop the disease. If an individual inherits only one sickle cell gene and one normal gene, they become a carrier and can pass the gene to their offspring. Genetic counseling and testing are recommended for individuals with a family history of SCD to understand their risks and make informed decisions. #WorldSickleCellDay #SickleCellAwareness #GeneticDisorders #InheritedConditions
