Centre for Movement Disorders

The Centre for Movement Disorders offers a Total Parkinson Disease Care Programme and is supported by a rehabilitation expert, speech therapist, psychologist and dietician. Medical care given by an expert movement disorder neurologist is complemented by a well-trained neurosurgical team for Deep Brain Stimulation. Using the best equipment and expertise, we ensure the most accurate surgical results for patients.

Centre for Stroke Management

The Centre for Stroke Management is geared to provide state-of-the-art care for patients within the first few hours of acute stroke and transient ischemic attacks. This fully equipped, five-bed stroke unit is a special care area with equipment and nursing expertise, geared to treat patients with acute stroke. Our Neurological Catheter Lab functions around the clock to open up blocked arteries in the brain using advanced catheter systems. Injecting glue, inserting coils and balloons to plug bleeding blood vessels in the brain requires a highly skilled radiology team. We are proud to have the best of radiology teams in Kokilaben Hospital.

Centre for Epilepsy

The Centre for Epilepsy has a rare combination of the best epileptologists, electrophysiologists and the most experienced of epilepsy surgeons under one roof to care for both children and adults with seizures. A multitude of new drugs, facilities for accurate identification of the epileptic focus in the brain using continuous video EEG telemetry, intra-operative EEG and high-quality brain imaging for the complete surgical removal of the firing brain focus has made complete cure a reality for many patients. We offer the best of these services at our hospital.

Our team of skilled and caring doctors, including three neurologists, one electrophysiologist and three neurosurgeons are available daily. This core team is ably assisted by the extended support services of two neuroradiologists, two interventional radiologists, a psychiatrist, a clinical psychologist and neurorehabilitation experts, all of whom are associated  with the hospital on a full-time basis. Consultant and Head of Neurology

Dr. Mohit Bhatt graduated from Grant Medical College and subsequently obtained an MD (Medicine) and DM (Neurology) from the University of Bombay. He completed his medical training by devoting 4 years to conducting research in movement disorders at the University of British Columbia (Vancouver, Canada) and subsequently at The National Hospital for Nervous Diseases (Queen Square, London, UK).

Dr. Shirish M. Hastak

Consultant Neurologist in Charge of Stroke Services

Dr. S. M. Hastak has done his MD (Medicine) and later his DM (Neurology) from the Topiwala National Medical College (Mumbai). He was then awarded the Upjohn fellowship to work in cerebrovascular disorders in the University of Western Ontario (Canada) under Prof. V. Hachinski, one of the leading authorities in the field of stroke. He was involved in pivotal international stroke trials for a period of 2 years during his stroke fellowship in Canada. He returned to India in 1991 and later set up the first stroke unit in western India and the first stroke support group in India. Presently, he is the Vice President (elect) of the Indian Stroke Association and a nominated member of the American Stroke Association.

Dr. Jayanti Mani

Dr. Jayanti Mani completed her entire medical training from GS Medical College and KEM Hospital in Mumbai. After completing a DM degree in Neurology, she worked as a full-time consultant in reputed academic institutions and institutes in the country, for over seven years. During this period, she was a visiting fellow at the Department of EEG & Clinical Neurophysiology, King's College (London). Her interest in epilepsy took her to the Cleveland Clinic Foundation, where she completed a two-year fellowship in clinical epilepsy and neurophysiology, from 2003 till 2005.

Dr. Malla Bhaskara Rao

Dr. Malla Bhaskara Rao underwent primary neurosurgical training in India and further training in epilepsy surgery in the UK and Australia. Dr. Rao served the Sree Chitra Tirunal Institute of Medical Sciences and Technology (Trivandrum) as an academic neurosurgeon for ten years. Dr. Rao has made a substantial contribution to patient care, post-graduate teaching and clinical research at SCTIMST. In particular, his contribution to the epilepsy surgery programme at the SCTIMST is outstanding.
