Description
  • Over-see the activities of Genetics and Molecular Biology department and perform specialized investigations
  • Keep the Genetics and Molecular Biology department in readiness for audits by regulatory authorities at all times.
  • Ensure proper processing and analysis of molecular and genetics test samples (NGS, MLPA, Fragments, Sanger/RT-PCR) as per the standard operating procedure guidelines and as requested by the clinicians.
  • Be alert to functioning of lab and instruments and immediately notify any deviation to the Consultant / Head of the department.
  • Ensure all test / samples are processed as per the accreditation requirements of NABL and CAP, to achieve highest quality standards.
  • Ensure that the calibration of equipment is performed according to the set protocol.
  • Formulate and standardize reagents & solutions required in the laboratory 
  • Ensure that TAT is maintained by the timely preparation and release of reports and that the critical reports are informed to the relevant personnel in a timely manner.
  • Keep track of inventory and place indents for the reagents requirements.
  • Out-sourcing of test that are not performed in-house to appropriate laboratories and timely dispatch of reports
  • Maintain a high level of confidence in the test results
  • Ensure optimal equipment utilization – by ensuring that all equipment’s are operational and ready to use by other laboratory staff and sufficient supplies are available.
  • Identify new tests to be added and ensure proper standardization and validation of these tests.
  • Ensure that all quality control activities are performed as per set protocols and cross-check control values
  • Understand and comply with the laboratory Quality Control and Quality Assurance policies and procedures for instrumentation testing
  • Ensure up-keep of equipment by looking after the daily, weekly and periodic maintenance procedures so that all equipment are operational and ready for use.
  • Up-date and maintain the maintenance log book and monitor timely maintenance schedule by ensuring that all spare parts would be available during the servicing and break-downs
  • Maintain patient confidentiality
  • Attend to all patient queries and complaints and solve them
  • To be sensitive about the patients needs and perform duties to his utmost satisfaction
  • To coordinate activities between patients, laboratory and clinicians
  • To keep yourself updated to latest developments in the field
  • Provide practical training to small groups within area of expertise
  • Look after the general up-keep and maintenance requirements of the equipment’s
  • Maintain health and safety guidelines in handling hazardous chemicals and bio-hazardous samples
  • Up-date techniques and revise SOP to keep pace with changing technology.
  • Prepare documents as per requirements of audits for accreditation
  • Set the duty roaster for the month and ensure that it is followed
  • Control the inventory management and documentation and coordinate with the purchase department to ensure that there is no stock-out situation
  • Trouble shooting as when required
  • Guide attendants and house-keeping staff in maintaining general cleanliness of laboratory and other equipment
  • Interact in a professional manner with doctors, nurses and other personnel.
  • Undertake all the other duties at a comparable level of responsibility as required from time to time.
  • Demonstrate responsibility, accountability and high levels of independence whilst following the departments protocols and procedures
  • Keep record of attendance to attendants and cleaners on daily basis and to communicate any form of absence according to departments absence reporting procedure
  • Take any additional; responsibility as directed by HOD, laboratory Manager
  • Report any disciplinary issues to the HOD and Laboratory Manager
