Vision problems in children are becoming more common than ever. Kids are spending more hours on tablets, phones, and computers, which can strain their eyes and contribute to conditions like myopia (nearsightedness). Other common vision problems in children include Hyperopia (difficulty seeing close objects) and Astigmatism (blurred or distorted vision), Lazy eye (amblyopia) or crossed eyes (strabismus). The tricky part is that young children often don’t realize their vision isn’t perfect or may not tell anyone. Signs to watch for include frequent eye rubbing, squinting, sitting too close to the TV, or complaints of headaches and eye strain. Here's when you should take your child for an eye exam: * At 6 months and again at 3 years for early detection * Before starting school (around age 5 or 6) * Immediately if you notice any signs of vision trouble * Regularly every 1-2 years, or as advised by your eye doctor Early detection and treatment can prevent long-term issues.
