A hernia occurs when there is a weakness in the layers of the abdominal wall. The pressure from inside the abdomen pushes the lining of the abdominal wall, the peritoneum, out through this area of weakness, leading to a bulge under the skin. The resulting bulge can be painful and may require immediate surgical care. Consult a doctor if you experience persistent pain, nausea, vomiting, difficulty in bowel movements, or if the hernia bulge becomes hard, tender, or unable to be pushed back in. Early medical intervention can prevent complications and ensure proper treatment. #HerniaAwarenessMonth
