Dr. B. A. Chaurasia: Life-Saving ECMO in severe ARDS following Cardiac Arrest

A 36-year-old woman with a history of bariatric surgery, significant weight regain, and regular vape use was brought to Kokilaben Hospital in an extremely critical condition. She collapsed due to severe respiratory distress and was found to have Acute Respiratory Distress Syndrome (ARDS) with dangerously high carbon dioxide levels. Soon after arrival, she suffered a cardiac arrest.
The critical care team, led by Dr. B. A Chaurasia, Consultant, Internal Medicine, acted swiftly, initiating veno-venous ECMO, a life-saving intervention for patients with severe respiratory failure. Despite complex challenges including obesity, stress cardiomyopathy, and neurological complications, she was stabilised. With timely action, expert judgement, and coordinated multidisciplinary care, she was gradually weaned off ECMO and recovered fully.
The patient has now returned home, breathing on her own and walking again—a true testament to the power of critical care and timely decision-making.
At Kokilaben Hospital, every life matters, and behind every recovery is a team committed to clinical excellence.
