Biography

Dr Falguni Parikh is a consultant in Internal Medicine at  Kokilaben Dhirubai Ambani Hospital since 2008.  Her expertise is management of patients with multisystem involvement and diagnostic challenges. In addition,her clinical and special interests focus on Tropical medicine, infectious diseases including HIVand Tuberculosis,hypertension. She runs the Adult Immunization Clinic. Dr Parikh is a teacher for DNB Medicine students at KDAH.

Dr Parikh completed her advanced Medical degree in MD Medicine from BYL Nair charitable Hospital and Topiwala National medical college in 1994. Before joining KDAH, she served as a senior faculty for 16 years  in the Department of Medicine at her alma mater.

  • Awarded Certificate of Appreciation by the Government of Maharashtra state (India) for Management of patients with monsoon related illnesses post deluge of 26/7/2006.
  • Conferred FICP (Fellowship of Indian College of Physicians-Academic Wing of Association of  Physicians of India.)
  •  Awarded 2nd prize(Dr. J. N. Karbhase Shield) in senior staff category for paper on ‘Critical illness in pregnancy- MICU experience’ presented at the194th scientific meeting held on 26th September 2006 by Staff Society of B.Y. L. Nair Charitable Hospital for 2006-2007.
  • Hargobind Medical Foundation Fellowship in 2004.
  • Awarded MJ Shah Memorial award in Tropical Medicine for work on “Changing Spectrum of Leptospirosis” by the Association of Physicians of India at their Annual conference APICON held in Varanasi in 2003.
  • Recipient of the prize for the BEST THESIS in thesis competition for MD Medicine students of BYL Nair Charitable Hospital (1994).
  • Recipient of FIRST PRIZE for poster presentation on “Evaluation of efficacy and safety of a combination of Norfloxacin and Tinidazole in the treatment of acute infective diarrhoeas” at APICON (1996), Kathmandu, Nepal.
  • Recepient of Smt. Melarani Jaigopal Mohla Award for standing first amongst female students of TN Medical College at third MBBS Examination.(1989)
  • DISTINCTION in ENT and Ophthalmology at third MBBS examination.(1989)

Dr. Parikh worked for Fifteen years as a faculty (Assistant professor followed by Associate professor) in Internal Medicine at the prestigious B.Y.L. Nair hospital and Topiwala National Medical College which is a 1500 bedded multispecialty tertiary care hospital with a medical college situated in South Mumbai. She has wide experience in handling patients with multiple medical issues.

During her tenure at Nair Hospital she was attached to Tropical Medicine Clinic and Hypertension Clinic right from their inception in 1993. In addition she was also In charge of 23 bedded closed Medical Intensive Care Unit.

She along with her team was instrumental in upgrading the ICU services to meet quality standards of ISO 9001:2000 certification in 2005 which is a landmark achievement for a public hospital in India.

In addition to clinical services She has been actively involved in medical education and taught undergraduate and postgraduate students and has guided postgraduate students in their dissertation for MD and DNB programmes.

KDAH Experience

Dr. Parikh has wide experience in the field of Internal medicine and has handled patients with multiple medical issues, diagnostic dilemmas and geriatric patients. She has special interest in diagnosis and treatment of diseases common to the tropics like Malaria, Leptospirosis, Dengue, Typhoid, Chikungunya, and Tuberculosis. She has handled patients with tuberculosis of spine,chest,abdomen,lymph nodes,genitourinary tract,brain, eye and bones. She has managed infections like rickettsial infections, hydatid disease, cysticercosis, amoebiasis, tropical eosinophilia and filariasis besides rare bacterial and viral infections like Brucellosis, Ebstein Barr virus infections, etc.

She offers comprehensive care of  patients with HIV/AIDS including management of opportunistic infectionsand sexually transmitted infections and non infectious co morbidities in these patients. She is particularly interested in evaluation,diagnosis and management of patients with prolonged fevers. She runs the Adult immunization clinic and offers vaccination advice. She has handled emerging and re emerging infections like H1N1 influenza, chikungunya, syphilis etc

Hypertension is a silent killer and a very important risk factor for heart, brain and kidney disease. Dr. Parikh specialises in management of essential hypertension and is particularly interested in the management of hypertension in pregnancy, and hypertension in young patients including secondary hypertension.
