Dr. Shreyash Gajjar is an impeccable and outstanding orthopaedic surgeon. I met him in November 2024 after having an MRI scan of my shoulder regarding an injury I sustained in September 2024.
Being an athlete, falling while playing or having minor cuts during practice or competitions was an everyday occurrence for me. I am primarily a thrower, and my events are shot put and discus throw. However, during my 10th grade, I was selected to represent my school in a volleyball match during the DSO District Games of 2024. During the semi-finals, I dived to pick up the ball and score a point against the opponent team, during which I dislocated my right shoulder (my leading hand). At that moment, I had no idea about the injury and did not feel the pain due to the adrenaline rush. Later, I continued my regular gym and practice sessions with some restrictions in my shoulder, but no significant pain was noticed initially.
In November, the pain started to worsen, which is when we decided to get a CT scan and an MRI of my shoulder. The reports revealed that I had a Bankart Tear and a Hill-Sachs lesion in my right shoulder. That was when we consulted Dr. Gajjar at Kokilaben Hospital. We visited him on 21st November 2024, and he informed us that I would need surgery to repair the tissues. My parents were very worried after hearing about the surgery, with their main concern being whether I would ever be able to play sports again. However, whenever they asked Dr. Gajjar this question, his response was always, “Why wouldn’t he be able to play?” with a reassuring smile.
I underwent arthroscopic surgery on 23rd November 2024 performed by Dr. Gajjar. For several weeks after the surgery, my hand had to remain in an arm sling as there could be no movement of my right hand due to the procedure. Being an athlete and also diagnosed with ADHD, it was very difficult for me to keep my dominant hand completely still. Whenever I complained about this to Dr. Gajjar, he would remind me, “If you want a career in your sport ahead, do what I say.”
Now, after more than a year since my surgery, I can confidently say that consulting Dr. Gajjar was one of the best decisions my parents made for me. Today, I lift weights with greater confidence and without any pain or limitation in my right shoulder movements. For me, there cannot be a better orthopaedic surgeon in the world. His diagnosis, expertise, mentorship, and constant support during my recovery and rehabilitation made all the difference. Thank you very much, sir, for helping me through that difficult time. Because of you, I am able to continue my sports journey again.
